Styling After Spring Cleaning

Today I am delving into the interiors realm with you. You've possibly finished your spring cleaning for the season, and you're looking at some cleared cupboards, and you can see your benchtops again! Yay you! But here's the fun bit: styling!

Styling your home after a spring clean is like putting the cherry on top. Nothing beats the feeling of making a small change to a space, making it feel fresh and welcoming. It's not about buying anything new or reinventing your style. It's about playing around with the principles and elements of design using what you already have.

Here are some ways you can spruce up your space for the season.

Shop Your Home First

A vase you have stored for who knows how long? The cushions hiding in the spare room? Bring them out and give them new life in a different space. Play around a bit by moving things to different locations in your home, allowing yourself to think creatively. Rotate some artwork or beautiful books on your coffee table. You'll soon look at your space and treasures with a different perspective.

Add Greenery

Indoor plants, or even some foliage from a shrub outside, can add life to any room. From large twigs in a vase for a dramatic impact, to a small posy of spring blooms in a glass jar, it's a wonderful way to add a breath of fresh air into your space.

No fancy styling needed. Just a vase, some backyard blooms, and a cleared surface. Simple joys.

Create Breathing Space

Negative space is your best friend. Don't fill every surface! Just a few special pieces look far more intentional than a cluttered display. Choose one hero piece per surface. A candle, vase, or favourite artwork, and let it shine. Edit out competing clutter so that your eye knows where to rest. Same goes for furniture. Create better flow and openness by rearranging your furniture layout or consider removing a piece of furniture altogether if it isn't serving its purpose anymore and is just taking up space.

Switch Textures and Colours for Seasons

Heavy winter throws can be swapped out for lighter linen or cotton ones. Replace darker coloured cushions, table linen and bedding with light fresh colours like pastels, neutrals or whites. Play with contrast in texture or colours for extra visual interest.

Everyday Items are Beautiful

Using natural baskets for storage, glass jars for pantry staples, or pretty trays to corral your remotes, keys, glasses, or jewellery are functional and look beautiful too.

I hope you feel inspired to look at your spaces differently and use these techniques to add new life to your freshly spring cleaned home. Every time you walk into a room you've edited, you'll feel proud, calm and energised for the season ahead.

Now it's over to you! Choose one room, add one styling touch, and enjoy the visual reward.
