Letting Go Without the Guilt: Where Your Unwanted Items Can Make a Difference in Canberra

I get this question from clients often:

"I struggle to let go of things because I don’t want them to be wasted. How can you help with this?"

This is such a common concern, and I completely understand. It's much easier to part with something when you know it will be used and appreciated rather than just thrown away.

That’s where my experience and knowledge come in! I take the time to find the right home for items that can be donated or recycled, ensuring they go to people and organisations that truly need them.

Here are a few resources in and around our area that can help address this common concern:

Children’s clothes and toysRoundabout Canberra accepts preloved and new essential items for babies and children up to 16 years of age, including clothing and toys.

Blankets, Towels, and Animal Food: RSPCA ACT welcomes good condition towels and blankets, as well as unopened animal treats and bedding for dogs and cats.

Craft Supplies: The Canberra Hospital Foundation's Donation Station appreciates handcrafted items and may accept craft supplies for creating comfort items for patients.

Pharmaceutical Drugs: Unused or expired medications can be returned to local pharmacies in Canberra for responsible disposal.

Recyclables (Steel, Computers, Paper, Cardboard, Batteries, Paint, Household Chemicals, Fluorescent Lights): The ACT Government's Recyclopaedia provides information on where to recycle various materials.

Pots and Gardening Equipment: Consider donating to local community gardens or schools with gardening programs.

Ink Cartridges, Mobile Phones, and Computer Equipment: Officeworks stores in Canberra offer recycling programs for these items.

Cars, Caravans, Motorcycles (Even if Not Working): Organisations like Car Takeback, Access Recycling in Fyshwick, Sims Metal Management Hume, or ACT Recycling in Symonston may be able to assist you.

By donating or recycling through these organisations, you can ensure your items are valued and put to good use, making the decluttering process more environmentally friendly and impactful.

As part of my service, I personally drop off these donations to community groups that will use them directly. This not only makes decluttering easier for you but also ensures your items make a positive impact rather than ending up in landfill. For big decluttering jobs, we usually arrange the removal of the bulk of these items and an extra cost may apply. Whether it's a small refresh, or a big project, I will guide you through the process and together we can decide what works best for you.

Ready to reclaim your space while making a difference? Let's get started!

XOXO

Henda
